On 16 October 2007, Mdm Rukumani D/O Manickam, a union member who worked in STMicroelectronics, received $500 UWEEI Hardship Grant from the STM Branch Chairman Yeo Swee Hock at UWEEI HQ. Mdm Rukumani suffered from diabetes and was unable to work. As a result, she was on long-term sick leave from 2004-2007.
Mdm Rukumani started working in STM Toa Payoh as an operator since 1973 and has been a union member for 33 years. Through the union’s assistance and negotiation with the company, Mdm Rukumani was medically boarded out in 2007.
Mdm Rukumani said that she was very appreciative of union’s help in negotiating for her medical board-out and the granting of the hardship grant.
